Self-Similar Solutions and Their Stability for the Flow of Relativistic Fluids Through Channels
Abstract
We analyze the flow of a perfect relativistic fluid in a circular confining channel of variable cross-section, a situation which is currently thought to be relevant for models of beams protruding from radio galaxies. Families of slef-similar solutions are found and we illustrate some of their topological characteristics. However, a perturbative investigation of the solutions indicates that all such self-similar modes are unstable, and would eventually evolve into some non-self-similar form.
