Calculation of terrestrial and astronomical refraction at large zenith distances
Abstract
Procedures for calculating terrestrial and astronomical refraction at the horizon are presented. Methods of calculating terrestrial refraction for arbitrary altitude of an object are considered in the case when the elevation profile of the refractive index is only known up to an altitude of 30 km. The optimal distribution of integration points in the numerical solution of the refraction equations is analyzed. Recommendations on assuring the maximum accuracy of calculated refraction values are discussed.
