Numerical investigation of the collapse of protostars. Physical and mathematical formulation of the problem. I - Governing basic equations
Abstract
The present analysis deals with equations that describe the physical characteristics of protostars in the case of their spherically symmetric collapse. These include the hydrodynamic equations for optically thin protostars and protostars containing a dense nucleus; the equations for a quasi-static nucleus in an extended dynamic shell; and the appropriate boundary conditions. The equations are written in a form convenient for computer adaptation. The equations of state, the optical characteristics, and the bulk energy losses are examined.
