Rotating stall in axial flow compressors
Abstract
Some of the methods used to predict rotating stall or its characteristics are described. Predictions obtained using these methods are compared to experimental data obtained from four different single stage axial compressors, and their reliability is discussed. A nonlinear method is proposed to calculate rotating stall inception and characteristics in a quasi-three-dimensional compressible flow of a one stage or multistage axial flow compressor. The suitability of such a method for the solution of industrial problems is discussed and the missing experimental data for its improvement are identified.
