Fluctuating properties of turbulence in a circular Couette flow
Abstract
A series of laser-Doppler anemometer measurements was carried out to gain insight into the nature of the distribution of fluctuating velocities in a circular Couette flow. The flow was generated in the space between a 60-cm-diam stationary cylinder and a 46-cm-diam rotating inner cylinder. The flow boundaries were smooth, the conditions stationary and two-dimensional. The distributions of time-averaged velocities, fluctuating velocities, turbulence intensities, and the distribution of the cross correlation factor are plotted and discussed.
