Fusion: The power sources of the future inertial confinement option
Abstract
The advantageous features and the methods being pursued toward achieving power generation from inertial confinement fusion are discussed. The concept of nuclear fusion is reviewed which includes a discussion of fusion reactions using deuterium and tritium. Research progress in inertial confinement fusion is reported and the application of lasers, electron beams, and ion beams to drive the compression and heating of the fusion fuels is surveyed.
