A second generation sun sensor for sounding rocket applications
Abstract
The Lockheed Intermediate Sun Sensor (LISS) discussed in the present paper was developed to overcome limitations found with first generation sun sensors. The design features of the sensor include an optical assembly having engraved reticles, a large integral reference optical surface, voltage regulation in the electronics, and modular construction permitting easy refurbishment. In all space flights to date, the LISS has operated faultlessly and satisfied the mission requirements.
