Observation of solar X-radiation on board "Prognoz-6".
Abstract
Observation of solar X-radiation in the energy range from 2 to 200 keV on board the high apogee satellite Prognoz-6 is discussed. Two types of detectors were used: proportional gas counters for 2- to 30-keV range and scintillator counters for 20- to 200-keV range. Pre-flare activity in the soft X-ray region (less than 20 keV) was discovered before each hard X-ray burst (greater than 40 keV). Qualitatively, the pre-flare activity can be explained by the increase of the plasma temperature resulting from plasma turbulence during the flare development. The X-radiation from that plasma is generated as a result of free-free transitions.
