Prediction of flow in centrifugal impellers
Abstract
The paper reports on two computer programs which were used to calculate the detailed pressure field in two impellers, for which the geometry and test data were supplied by the organizers of the Symposium 'Performance prediction of centrifugal pumps and compressors'. Attention is given to the impellers considered which were of the low pressure ratio centrifugal compressor type, with an inducing portion and straight radial vanes with no sweepback. It is reported that the first computer program gave excellent results for one impeller with relatively modest diffusion. On the second impeller, this program had to be coupled with the second program capable of calculating separated flow on the blade-to-blade surface. It is concluded that the agreement with test results for this impeller was also found to be satisfactory.
