Characteristics and requirements of millimeter wave communication antennas
Abstract
This paper addresses the characteristics and requirements of EHF frequency communication antennas. For surface to space systems (SATCOM) both the surface segment and the space segment are addressed. It is the objective of this paper to isolate the critical aspects of antenna design (feed, pedestal, and servo) driven by increased precision of EHF wavelengths. In addition, this paper relates certain aspects of the antenna design to the underlying impetus forcing an EHF link, particularly A/J. The paper concentrates on several critical design trade-offs that exist in the application of EHF antennas in mobile surface SATCOM terminals.
