Natural convection between two concentric spheres - Transition towards a multicellular flow
Abstract
It is noted that the flow due to natural convection between two concentric spheres has been widely investigated experimentally. A numerical model is presented which makes it possible to obtain the temperature and stream function fields. Radius ratios between 1.15 and 3 and Rayleigh numbers from 100 to 10 to the 5th are considered. It is found that for a given set of parameters, two different solutions are possible.
