Analysis of ECCM characteristics of frequency agile radar systems
Abstract
After an introductory review of frequency agility radar system properties the general ECCM characteristics of such systems are discussed. Frequency agile transmitters are presented and system implications for optimized ECCM design are pointed out. Principles for jamming a frequency agile radar are discussed, and the required jammer complexity for different levels of jamming ambition is presented. Finally the ECCM properties of mechanically tuned magnetrons are discussed in the light of modern signal processing and the conclusion is drawn that well designed pulse generation patterns in combination with fast tunable magnetrons will have a substantial ECCM value even when confronted with sophisticated jammers.
