Analysis of a method for the heterodyne reception of incoherent radiation
Abstract
A heterodyne method for the reception of solar infrared radiation is proposed; a radiometer for investigating the gaseous composition of the atmosphere in the 9-11 micron range is considered as an example. The signal/noise ratio at the intermediate frequency is analyzed for the reception of incoherent radiation. It is shown that the sensitivity of the heterodyne radiometer is greater than that of a direct detector.
