Adaptive transform image coding for human analysis
Abstract
Compression methods for monochrome aerial reconnaissance imagery for photo-interpretation have been studied. Adaptive two-dimensional block transform coding methods have performed the best. Developments reported in this paper include methods of assigning regions of each picture to various classes and of preprocessing the data such that subjective ratings of the reconstructed imagery are improved. Also presented are the effects of channel errors and a method for discovery and correction of the most significant errors.
