IF lightwave entrance links for satellite earth stations
Abstract
The paper deals with optical-fiber transmission systems employed as video or message entrance links for satellite earth stations. An experimental lightwave entrance link has been constructed to transmit light at a wavelength of 830 nm. The optical transmitter is intensity modulated by a frequency modulated 70 MHZ IF signal. Tests and analysis indicate that lightwave entrance links are capable of transmitting one color video channel of 1200 voice channels (FDM).
