The economics of producing hydrogen from a small air-blown coal gasifier
Abstract
In the quest to implement hydrogen energy concepts, the lack of modest quantities of low cost hydrogen is often encountered. Production of hydrogen from coal is commercial in many of the world's ammonia plants. In this study a hydrogen production facility is described which would be appropriate for a single large user or small municipality. The cost of hydrogen from this plant is competitive with existing fuels and represents a new alternative for the utilizing coal including those with high sulfur content.
