A survey of advanced gasdynamic laser concepts
Abstract
The paper reviews several historical accounts describing the progress on mixing gasdynamic laser concepts by research groups in various countries. Each group has evolved its own mixing nozzle design concepts and carried out calculations and performance verifications by means of gain measurements, power extraction and assessments of flow quality. The effects of contaminants produced by realistic fluids have also been investigated. The contributions of the several laboratories to each of these categories are described, discussed and contrasted in separate sections of the present paper. Finally, conclusions are drawn and projections are made as to the potential of the mixing gasdynamic laser.
