A microprocessor controlled 96/48 digital speech interpolation terminal
Abstract
A simplified and inexpensive DSI terminal has been developed for domestic satellite and/or terrestrial applications. It can transmit 96 digitized voice signals over two 1.544 Mb/s Tl compatible lines. Front-end speech clipping due to competition for accessing to the limited number of outgoing channels is virtually avoided by adaptively reducing the resolution of PCM words from normal 8 bit to 7 bit or 6 bit, according to the loading condition. It is designed to be transparent to channel signaling information in Tl carrier system, and to accommodate voice band data channels up to 10 percent of total traffic capacity.
