Mid-term progress report on the development of army Closed Cycle Circulator (CCC) system
Abstract
A closed cycle circulator system was developed for recirculating the laser gas through the cavity in order that problems of acoustic attenuation, thermal control, gas contamination, and power gain may be investigated for various pulsed energy inputs at the cavity. The circulator was assembled and tested for its performance evaluation. Its instrumentation subsystem was developed and calibrated to a reasonable accuracy. For safety, standard operating procedures have been established for review and approval. The instruments calibrated include hot wire anemometers for velocity and temperature, piezoelectric transducers for pressure, flowmeter for mass flow rate, and interferometer for medium homogeneity. A series of trial tests of the closed cycle circulator system resulted in an experimental analysis of performance data providing a better control of flow conditions in the cavity through the control mechanism.
