Electrical discharges in the Venus atmosphere
Abstract
The occurrence of electrical discharges and their characteristics were examined using data from the GROZA experiments during the Venera-11 and Venera-12 missions. A miniaturized sub-longwave spectra analyzer with a band range from 8 to 100 kHz was used. It is confirmed that electrical discharges occur in the cloud layer. Their energy is approximately the same as that of lightning on the Earth, but the mean frequency of discharge is much higher, reaching 30/sec.
