Prelaunch summary: NOAA-A launch
Abstract
The first NOAA-funded operational spacecraft of the TIROS-N series, NOAA-A will be launched from the Western Test Range by an Atlas-F type launch vehicle. The second state which is integral to TIROS-N is a TE-364-15 solid motor which will be used as an injection motor. The Atlas-F /satellite trajectory is a direct ascent, ballistic type trajectory from Pad SLC-3W. The booster state vector at satellite separation produces an apogee altitude of 450 nm at which time the apogee kick motor circularizing burn is accomplished. After apogee kick motor burnout, the orbit is trimmed, the satellite is oriented parallel to the orbit normal, and handover to satellite is accomplished. The mission objectives, environmental sensors, and support systems are described.
