Near field of an aperture radiator
Abstract
An approximate method is proposed for computing the near field of aperture radiators which is based on the solution of Maxwell's equation for a thin dipole in the form derived by Stratton, the principle of duality, and the principle of equivalent currents. A field generated by an area whose dimensions are small in comparison to the wavelength is expressed in terms of elementary functions. A field generated by an aperture with dimensions comparable to a wavelength is determined by summation of fields generated by area elements which make up the aperture.
