Where are we - A brief discussion of the Navy Navigation Satellite System
Abstract
This paper traces the progress of the design and construction of the Navy Navigation Satellite System (NNSS). It describes the satellites and launching equipment, and documents the reliability performance of satellites presently in orbit. A new propulsion system is also described. Doppler frequency shift, the principle upon which NNSS operates, is treated in detail. The paper concludes with a look at the future of navigation satellite systems.
