Nonsteady convective heat transfer in a tube of semicircular cross section
Abstract
By successive application of the Bubnov-Galerkin method and the method of characteristics, a solution is obtained to the unsteady energy equation for the laminar flow of a viscous incompressible fluid in a tube whose cross section is a semicircle. Heat is transferred to the fluid by convection. An analytical expression for the unsteady temperature field is derived. The time-behavior of the mean mass temperature of the fluid is determined for various tube cross sections.
