Wave-plasma coupling at the lower hybrid frequency
Abstract
The problem of steady-state nonlinear wave-plasma coupling at the lower hybrid frequency is considered. A nonlinear equation for the electric field in the low-density region at the plasma surface is derived self-consistently. Analytical and numerical solutions for different plasma models show a decrease in coupling efficiency with increasing power level. This result is interpreted using a simple physical picture. Its relevance to experiments is discussed.
