The effect of the Kerr metric on the plane of polarization of an electromagnetic wave
Abstract
The rotation of the plane of polarization for linearly polarized light rays propagating past a rotating massive body was examined. Two observers in different reference frames were utilized to observe the results for a special class of trajectories: those propagating parallel to the symmetry axis of the body. It is shown that the values for the change in polarization for the global inertial observer differ from that seen by the locally nonrotating observer. It is also shown that this class of trajectories exhibit maximal values - larger than what has been published before.
