Radar image simulation: A project to develop a model, define its operational constraints, validate its accuracy, and to produce sample results, volume 1 and 2
Abstract
A radar image simulation project was conducted to develop a model, to define its operational constraints, to validate its accuracy, and to produce sample results. Two different approaches to simulation of radar imagery were evaluated and resulted in two distinct models. The first of these models, the point scattering method (PSM), is applicable to simulation of area extensive, distributed targets. The second, the area spatial filtering (ASF) method, is applicable to simulation of specular reflection, cultural targets. Theoretical developments for both models are summarized, implementations are discussed, and sample results are presented. In addition, several ancillary studies performed in support of simulation are presented.
