Effects of the Gravitational Field on the Surface Roughening Transition
Abstract
Interfacial properties near the roughening transition temperature, T_R, are studied for the modified discrete Gaussian model by means of the renormalization group in the presence of the gravitational field. It is shown that the divergence of the interface width at T_R is suppressed by the gravitational field and that the interface width, L has the form of L∝ |ln(κ(0)a)|1/2 in the limit T-T_Rto± 0. Here κ(0) is a constant proportional to the gravitational field and a is the lattice constant. The interfacial profile was found to be expressed by the error function.
