Breakup of a liquid drop aggregate in shock waves
Abstract
Breakup of liquid drops has a considerable effect on physical and chemical phenomena in gas-liquid mixtures. In the experiments described, the breakup of liquid-nitrogen drop groups in shocked convective flows was studied at Mach numbers ranging from 1.05 to 1.6. It is shown that particle-particle interaction in the breakup process becomes apparent at distances of 7 particle diameters among the particles, and that the rate of particle disintegration is initially slower and subsequently faster than in the case of an isolated particle.
