A near infrared photographic survey of the galactic plane.
Abstract
A photographic survey of 80 fields in the northern Milky Way, carried out with the 1.2-m Palomar Schmidt telescope, is described. Sky-limited exposures on hypersensitized IV-N plates at an effective wavelength of 8200 A and short-exposure red (098-04) comparison plates are obtained for each field. This survey will be published in the same format as the National Geographic Society-Palomar Observatory Sky Atlas. The limiting magnitude in the infrared bandpass is approximately I = 19.0.
