A simple model of crater formation.
Abstract
A simple model is proposed of the movement of the soil of the target during shock or explosive crater formation. The model is based on a simplification of the soil movement velocity field during the later stage of crater formation. A specified velocity field allows an examination of the soil movement along stationary flow lines; the model can evaluate the dependences of the crater size on the energy of impact or explosion and on gravity, and also on the relationship of the rejected material from the crater to the distance from the center of the crater.
