The measurement of channel-flow velocity by a laser Doppler hydrometer
Abstract
A laser Doppler anemometer was used to obtain data on the vertical velocity distribution in an open rectangular channel with dimensions of 56 x 60 x 400 mm at Reynolds numbers of not greater than 1100. The obtained velocity profiles are characterized by boundary layer with negative velocity gradient. The advantages of the laser technique are emphasized, and experimental data are compared with theoretical results.
