On the self-consistent description of axisymmetric pulsar magnetospheres
Abstract
The paper presents a generalized covariant formulation of the effective field method and derives improved pulsar equations. The effective field formalism is an exact method of including inertial effects into the description of pulsar magnetospheres. The asymptotic region is considered to specify boundary conditions and a fully self-consistent solution is constructed which represents a strictly charge separated pulsar wind consisting of high energy particles that stream outwards radially. In the asymptotic solution the particles are no longer accelerated and in that limit the assumption of vanishing radiation is justified.
