Spectroscopic survey of southern compact and bright-nucleus galaxies - II.
Abstract
Results are reported for spectroscopic observations of 60 galaxies suspected of having active nuclei and selected from an objective-prism survey. It is shown that 36 of these galaxies have conventional absorption spectra and that 16 have emission-line spectra; the latter include two previously unknown Fe II objects. None of the emission-line objects is found to be a Seyfert galaxy. Interesting cases include four 'near-Seyferts', two physically compact objects, a possibly active elliptical with an ejected 'blob', and an interacting system with an apparent redshift anomaly.
