High-resolution map of G 339.6-0.1 and its possible association with 4U 1642-45.
Abstract
The possibility is considered that the X-ray source 4U 1642-45 is associated with the H II region G339.6-0.1. A high-resolution map of G339.6-0.1 at 1415 MHz shows that the X-ray source 4U 1642-45 is displaced from the center of the H II region. Furthermore, the X-ray source does not correspond with any point radio source within G339.6-0.1. Arguments based on the X-ray emissivity of 4U 1642-45 and the optical absorption to G339.6-0.1 do, however, place both objects at about 15 kpc. Data are listed on 15 point like radio sources within 0.6 deg of arc of G339.6-0.1, including the pulsar PSR 1641-45.
