The method of matched asymptotic expansions in the hydrodynamics of wings
Abstract
The application of matched asymptotic expansions to the hydrodynamics of wings in an ideal incompressible fluid flow is reviewed. Attention is given to the application of this method to a wing of large aspect ratio, the asymptotic theory of a wing moving at small distances from a rigid boundary, thin wing theory, the nonlinear theory of sliding in a heavy fluid, and the effect of cutouts on the hydrodynamic characteristics of wings.
