The modelling of converters by an equivalent circuit
Abstract
The modelling of dc to dc or dc to ac switching converters is a difficult problem because the circuit topology is periodically modified when the converter is operating. We propose a modelling method in which a single averaged equivalent circuit takes the place of the converter. So currents and voltages can be found with a good approximation (in transient or permanent operation). First we give an approach of the method by consideration of an elementary converter. Then we develop a general theory by use of a state representation of the system. This theory leads to the equivalent circuit building rules. At last these rules are applied to the most currently used converters.
