The use of multiplexers for logic function synthesis
Abstract
Consideration is given to the division of binary variables into data and selection inputs in the determination of a logic circuit using a minimal number of multiplexer units. A method based on the use of don't care symbols in the Quine-McCluskey table is proposed for the division of variables in a multilevel system, and various circuits for the same function using multiplexers and XOR gates are compared. It is concluded that multiplexer designs permit the use of fewer interconnections than conventional designs, while being more flexible and consuming less energy.
