The transformation of external disturbances into the boundary layer waves
Abstract
The generation of vortex Tollmien-Schlichting waves at the leading edge of a flat plate in the presence of free-stream disturbances has been investigated experimentally and theoretically. The theoretical study is based on the numerical solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations linearized relative to a small amplitude of disturbances. Good qualitative agreement is obtained between theory and the results of low-turbulence wind tunnel experiments.
