On some properties of shock gas-compression by a heavy piston
Abstract
Gas compression by means of a heavy, non-deformable piston moving at a constant hypersonic speed is analyzed. A closed-form solution is given to the problem, along with a numerical analysis of the parameters of a polytropic gas state under compression. The errors of the solution, resulting from the simplifying assumptions adopted are estimated.
