IRAS on-board software
Abstract
The IRAS (Infra-Red Astronomical Satellite) will be equipped with an onboard computer for controlling the spacecraft and experiments. The software must satisfy two conflicting requirements: provision of a reliable system which will prevent direct solar and terrestrial radiation from entering the experiment telescope, and provision of a flexible measurement tool which will use the one-year mission duration as efficiently as possible. The software is described with reference to ROM and RAM resident functions; a tradeoff between flexibility and safety has been achieved.
