Heating characteristic of imperfect dielectrics in a traveling electromagnetic wave field
Abstract
The temperature dependence of the electrical and thermophysical properties of dielectrics leads to the appearance of competitive energetic processes when the dielectric is heated by an electromagnetic field. An increase in effective and reactive permeability leads to a decrease of the electromagnetic energy flux to the dielectric and also to an increase in the field attenuation factor. A consequence of this is an increase in power of the heat sources generated, by absorption of field energy, near the boundary of the dielectric. The increase in heat capacity leads to a decrease in heating rate. Because of this, it becomes difficult to use these parameters for obtaining heating estimates. It is proposed to use the adiabatic heating of the dielectric's boundary by a normally incident electromagnetic wave for obtaining heating estimates.
