Acoustic microscopy - 1979
Abstract
Approximately 35 years after Sokolov first proposed the notion of acoustic microscopy, the technology has now developed to the point where it is practical. Current emphasis is on applications of the technology as well as improvement on the techniques employed. It is anticipated that the Scanning Laser Acoustic Microscope (SLAM) and the Scanning Acoustic Microscope (SAM) will soon take their place along the electron microscope as standard analytical instruments. Applications of acoustic microscopy are related to biomedical studies, materials technology and nondestructive testing, and the examination of electronic components.
