Excitation of electronic levels in a gas-discharge nitrogen plasma
Abstract
In the present paper, the experimental electron cross sections obtained by Cartwright et al. (1977) from the electron-loss spectrum which, as distinct from other methods of calculating inelastic electron cross section, permits elimination of cascade processes among the electron kinetic coefficients in a nitrogen gas-discharge plasma. Without any fitting of the electron cross sections, the disagreement between the calculated and experimental electron drift velocities, the ratio of the electron diffusion coefficient to mobility, and the ionization rate constant is less than 30 percent.
