Wave digital directional filters with reduced number of multipliers and adders
Abstract
A wave digital filter is automatically a directional filter since not only its transmittance but also its reflectance is actually available as a transfer function. These functions are known to be complementary. It is shown in this paper that for applications in which the attenuation requirements of these complementary filters are mutual mirror-images with respect to one-quarter of the operating rate, realizations can be obtained which lead to enormous savings in hardware. An example will be given which shows that a seventh order directional filter requires only three two-port adaptors besides the seven delays.
