Deuterium lamp as a UV continuum source from 160 nm to 320 nm for space applications
Abstract
A deuterium lamp as a UV continuum source from 160 nm to 320 nm for space applications is described. Mechanical and electrical properties are considered along with vacuum tests and microgravity experiments. The lamp is rigid enough to withstand shocks and vibrations. It features high radiant efficiency at low power consumption. The deuterium lamp operates satisfactory in vacuum and is not affected when exposed to zero gravity. Results of a balloon flight test are also presented.
