Umbrella-type dynamic-focusing mirror system
Abstract
An umbrella-type dynamic-focusing mirror system has been developed by combining a four-element deformable mirror with a corresponding arm length of bimorph in such a way that an umbrella-type mirror surface is obtained. Details of the mirror system are described, along with the principle of operation and the fundamental design. Numerical examples of the focusing characteristics of the mirror system are discussed, and a comparison is made with the focusing characteristics of a COAT (coherent optical adaptive technique) system. Experimental results obtained with a prototype mirror system are evaluated. The effectiveness of the system in dynamic focusing of laser beams is demonstrated.
