X-ray intensities from the flow of a stellar wind past a compact object.
Abstract
A model for a compact X-ray source powered by a stellar wind is discussed. The full hydrodynamic equations for the flow are solved. An attempt is made to link the thermodynamics and the hydrodynamics by introducing the explicit solutions for the temperature structure of the gas into the equations. The structure of the accretion wake is obtained. The X-ray light curve is calculated by solving the equation of transfer for the X-rays. The light curve shows only a small midphase 'dip.' The calculation is done for parameters appropriate to Cen X-3.
