Hydrogen line strengths in degenerate stars. II.
Abstract
Line profiles and equivalent widths of H-beta and H-gamma were measured, using the SIT digital spectrograph, in 19 DA stars for which multichannel photometry existed. These equivalent widths differ by a small scale factor. This material is used further to calibrate older W(H-gamma), measured photographically, which are found to be 15% too small. These scale changes have a significant effect when comparing the theoretical W(H-gamma) with model atmospheres. The agreement of W(H-gamma) with theory is quite good, indicating log g = 8 or slightly higher.
