The relationship between astronomical research and the development of scientific instruments
Abstract
A brief history outlining the development of astronomical instruments is given, beginning with the 17th century and ending with a speculation of future instruments. Attention is given to the universal mirror telescope, employing the Schmidt system or either the quasi-Newton, quasi-Cassegrain or quasi-Coude system.
